"An American Tragedy" - The American Media
On July 16th a New England bound plane went down off the coast of Cape Cod in what I now call
"The splash heard around the world".
The passengers on that plane were what some (especially the media) term American royalty. Just that statement alone really irks me. John Kennedy Jr. himself was skeptical about the mythology surrounding his family. (If he didn't buy into it then why should we?) And furthermore, the whole royalty thing was the reason our ancestors left England in the first place!!!
The news coverage included the crash, search (all 96 hours worth), discovery, burial at sea, funeral mass, history of the family, history of the individual family members (Teds was the highlight), interviews with everyone who ever met, bagged groceries for or burned warts off of the ass of a Kennedy.
Ratings are one thing, but when is enough really enough??
Well, I'll tell you. (As if you thought I wouldn't)
Im going to break this down in what is going to start a frenzy of hate emails the likes of which I've never seen (excluding the ones I get from Jude) By the way, wasn't his last update enlightening?
(Here comes another one!)
#1 It is a shame that John Kennedy Jr., his wife and her sister were killed. It's a shame when anyone is killed, especially someone in the prime of their life.
#2 It's really sad that the government would spend an estimated $2.8 million dollars (that's probably low) searching for JFK, Jr. when the proposed budget for locating me in the event of a plane crash is somewhere in the area of $137.46. This includes one webloe-scout and an eleven-year-old St. Bernard. (That's 77 to you an me)
#3 They say that Kennedy was not a risk taker when in fact he flew that evening when three other pilots, with more experience than Kennedy declined to take off. (With a recently broken ankle from a paragliding accident) Not a risk taker? He was an intelligent young man that made a bad decision. We've all made them. (It's just that mine weren't made at 2400 feet in the air)
#4 The media portrays the Kennedy's as a squeaky clean family with tags like American royalty when anyone who has researched the subject knows that bootlegger Joe Kennedy cut deals with everyone including the mob to place his son in the white house, and this was only after he (and Charles Lindberg) sided with Hitler in the early stages of WWII and ruined any chance of old Joe being president himself!!! I won't even go into the whole JFK Sr. doped out of his mind during the Cuban missile crisis or Chappaquiddick.
And last but not least
A Boycott of Chrysler Products!!!
Im not trying to discredit the good things that the Kennedy's have done (especially Ted, he's been an outstanding senator) or the tragedy's they've had to endure. The point I'm trying to make is that this was a Kennedy family and Bessette family tragedy not an "American tragedy" happening to "American royalty."
One more thing, it seems strange that this happened almost thirty years to the day of the drowning of Mary Jo Kopechne.
It makes you wonder if John F. Kennedy Jr.s death was cosmic payment of a debt Joseph Kennedy incurred to get John F. Kennedy Sr. into the white house? Hmm
Well I've said enough. In the words of Casey Casum, "keep your feet on the ground and you'll never suffer from spacial disorientation."
Until next time
